The Damcasters

George Pritchard: PRU Mosquito Veteran and the National PRU Memorial

Listen on

Episode notes

Aged just 17, George Pritchard from Croydon joined the RAF. In a whirlwind career, George would be posted to the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit flying pale blue De Haviland Mosquitos taking images of vital importance to the coming invasion of Europe. But that is just a very small part of George's story.

It was a pleasure to join Tony Hoskins, Director of the Spitfire AA810 project and the lead behind the proposed National Photographic Reconnaissance Unit Memorial on Whitehall, as we popped up to visit George at his home and talk about many, many things, a lot of which have made it into his new autobiography, Here We Go Again!

George, at 98, is sprightly, forthright and makes a mean cuppa. It was a pleasure to spend the day with him and Tony. If you would like a copy of George's autobiography, Oxford commas and all, you can use the link below. Proceeds of that, and the Dusty and Old Harry book, will go towards supporting the National PRU Memorial, which you can find out more about at the Spitfire AA810 website.
